Katie Holmes' Life After Tom Cruise

INSIDE EDITION has the latest on the life that Katie Holmes is making for her daughter Suri after filing for divorce from her husband, Tom Cruise.

Katie Holmes is building a new life with her daughter Suri and it is a world away from her days with Tom Cruise.

Holmes was in a New York supermarket with Suri wearing a pink cowgirl hat, buying a July 4th feast of burgers, ice cream and strawberries.

She told reporters, "I'm all right, thank you," when asked about her split with Cruise.

Holmes also took 6-year-old Suri to an ice cream parlor where the little girl enjoyed an ice cream cone. Then, apparently exhausted, she was taken home in her mothers arms.

Carlos Greer of People magazine told INSIDE EDITION, "Katie is not shying away from the cameras. She seems to be trying to rebuild her life pre-Cruise."

INSIDE EDITION is learning more about the months of planning that went into Holmes' split from Cruise.

Published reports said Holmes convinced Cruise she needed to move out of their townhouse in Greenwich Village and rent a new apartment so she could have a more secure and private place to stay when in New York, with an underground parking garage to evade paparazzi. He had no idea it was actually a ploy to escape from him.

Holmes is completely cleaning house. She has a new cell phone and the people who associated with her while she was with Cruise can't even contact her right now. And she gave a hint of what she was about to do in an interview with Elle magazine that she conducted six weeks ago and is being published only now.

"I feel sexier. I'm starting to come into my own. It's like a new phase. He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go," she said.

Meanwhile, Cruise spent a somber 50th birthday at his $30 million estate in Beverly Hills with a handful of visitors seen coming and going. His son Connor and daughter Isabella, who he adopted when he was married to Nicole Kidman, were with him.

He reportedly speaks to Suri several times a day by phone, but has not actually seen his daughter for three weeks.
