Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson's Break-Up Becomes A Dog Fight

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's break-up is going to the dogs - literally! The couple are reportedly fighting over who will get to keep their beloved pet dog. INSIDE EDITION has the report.

It's the dog at the center of a tug of love between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The adorable pooch they named Bear.

Stewart professed her love for the dog during an interview with Teen.com in 2011. She said, "Bear is literally like a child. I mean, he's still a baby."

And Pattinson also gushed about the dog during an interview on Live with Regis and Kelly, last year.

Regis said, "We hear you've got a new love in your life."

Pattinson replied, "When you put it like that. Yeah, I've adopted a dog."

He then told the story of how he and Stewart rescued the puppy from a shelter in New Orleans.

Kelly Ripa joked, "Boy, did that dog hit the jackpot!"

Pattinson replied, "He was in one of those shelters where they don't keep them around for very long and I think he was on like his sixth day of seven days."

Not long after Pattinson and Stewart adopted the cute mutt, they discovered that Bear had a serious heart disorder. They spent months nursing him back to health.

Now, the hot couple's relationship has come to an abrupt end with Stewart's admission that she cheated with a married man. Pattinson is said to want sole custody of the dog. But Stewart reportedly wants to share joint custody.

Divorce lawyer Kelly Chang-Rickert said family pets are often at the center of contentious custody battles.

She said, "In California court, pets are not viewed like children. So you can't really have joint custody. In fact, in California courts, pets are more viewed like property."

She then said, "People view their pets like almost like children, that is why when break-ups happen, custody of the pets is almost as emotional as custody of the children."
