Possible new evidence in the mysterious death of Natalie Wood has surfaced in a 1992 recording from Natalie's sister, Lana. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
New evidence has surfaced in the mysterious death of movie icon Natalie Wood.
An audio recording has just surfaced of Natalie’s sister, actress Lana Wood, recounting a conversation she had with Dennis Davern, the Captain of Natalie’s yacht.
"He said that it appeared to him as though RJ shoved her away. She went overboard. Dennis panicked. And RJ said, 'Leave her there. Teach her a lesson,'" said Lana.
RJ is Robert Wagner, Natalie’s husband.
The tape recording was made in 1992, 11 years after Natalie’s death off the coast of Catalina Island in California. Lana Wood went on to say that the Captain didn't think Robert Wagner meant for Natalie to drown.
The Captain allegedly said to Lana, "I mean, even if he did not kill her, which I understand, I think that it was an accident, he really didn't mean for her to drown. But he didn't run to her aid.”
The audio recordings will be aired for the first time Saturday night on 48 Hours Presents, Vanity Fair: Hollywood Scandal, on CBS.
Erin Moriarty investigated the case for 48 Hours.
Moriarty told INSIDE EDITION, "There are two full-time detectives who are still assigned to this investigation and there must be some credible, compelling, and maybe even incriminating evidence that is out there keeping this investigation going."
Los Angeles detectives were recently seen searching the yacht, The Splendor, which is now docked in Hawaii.
Authorities have said that Robert Wagner is not a suspect and he denies any involvement in her death.
