Hugh Jackman Sets Record Straight On Gay Rumors

Les Misérables and The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman says once and for all that if he were gay, he would be. But he says he's not. INSIDE EDITION has the story.

Hunky actor Hugh Jackman is setting the record straight – he’s not gay.

“You know, it's ridiculous,” said Jackman. “If I was, I would be. I don't think it's to me not the most interesting thing about a person anyway.”

The star of the upcoming action movie The Wolverine spoke out about the gay rumors on 60 Minutes: Australia.

His wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, is furious about the gay rumors that have dogged Jackman for years.

Hugh said, “This is just crazy,” and Deborra added, “This is just wrong. It’s a lie.”

She's 13 years older than Hugh, and they first met on an Australian soap opera in 1995. She denies their marriage is a sham.

“If he was gay, fine, he'd say he's gay,” she said. “It's gotten so out of whack, it's stupid.  And yet it's annoying because it's not true.”

The rumors started 10 years ago when Jackman played a flamboyant gay entertainer Peter Allen in the Broadway hit The Boy from Oz.

The rumors persisted even after he was nominated this year for Best Actor in Les Misérables.

Now Hugh Jackman says he's letting the gay rumors roll off his back. “On some level it's a compliment, you know, because it only happens when you get to a certain point in your career.”

“That you get to be gay,” Deborra said.
