Los Angeles Times Magazine contributing editor Mary Murphy told INSIDE EDITION, "Joan Collins knows how to have a catfight because she was the most famous catfighter on television in Dynasty.
The spat started over Shirley Jones' racy new memoir. In the book, Jones, who's now 79 years old, gives an eye-opening account of her sexual exploits with her first husband, the late actor Jack Cassidy.
Jones told Good Morning America, "Jack did it with men and women. But he loved women."
She says when she and Jack went on a double date with Joan Collins and her then-husband, the singer Anthony Newley, Newley suggested they all engage in group sex.
Jones writes in her book, "[Tony Newley] said, 'We've got some porno movies. Why don't we all get naked and watch together?'"
Jones writes that she declined the offer: "It was clear what Tony was leading up to, swinging."
Joan Collins said the incident never happened and is demanding that Shirley Jones remove the passage from her book. Collins' lawyer sent a "cease and desist" letter to Shirley Jones and her publisher, Simon and Schuster.
Collins said in a statement: "Both Shirley Jones and Simon and Schuster have agreed to correct the story. And Joan's name shall be removed immediately from ebook versions of the memoir and in future reprints of the bound book."
Collins, who is now 80 years old, also denies that she ever was a swinger.
"We all make mistakes. I've made a few myself, but not with Mrs. Jones. I'm a serial monogamist," said Collins.
Today on Good Day L.A., Shirley Jones stood by her story when the co-host asked, "Joan Collins and that whole thing. Anything you want to say about that and how she was really upset about it?"
Jones replied, "Whatever's in the book is in the book."
