Miley Cyrus’ raunchy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards is causing a huge controversy.
On the Today show, Savannah Guthrie said, "The internet is on fire."
Chris Connelly said on Good Morning America, "There are a lot of people on Twitter going, 'Where are her parents?'"
Through the years, the VMA’s have had their fair share of shocking moments and this year was no different.
Miley performed with singer Robin Thicke, at times it verged on becoming X-rated.
Mika Brzezinski on Morning Joe said, "That was really, really disturbing. That young lady, who is 20, is obviously deeply troubled."
Willie Geist then chimed in and said, "Whether it is her, Britney, Christina Aguilera, they are Disney kids and then they go to over correct this statement at a big event, like 'I am not a little girl anymore. I am all grown up.' But that was such an over correction."
Brooke Sheilds, who played Miley's mom on Hannah Montana appeared on the Today show. She said, “Who is advising her? Why is it necessary? And the whole finger thing and the hand. Robin at that point had to be going, 'I don't think this is such a good idea.'"
Miley's real mom was in the audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and she gave her daughter a standing ovation.
Comedian Kevin Hart said, “Miley might want to get a damn pregnancy test after all that grinding!”
At times, the VMA’s looked like a strip tease show. The Daily Mail called it: "Sexed-up.”
Katy Perry showed off lots of leg in a leopard print dress. Her accessory of choice was a gold grill that spelt, "Roar," the title of her new song.
Selena Gomez dared to be bare. She showed off a sheer black corset underneath her long sleeve Versace gown. Gomez’s B.F.F. Taylor Swift wore a Herve Leger gown with a plunging neckline.
Swift took a swipe at her ex, One Direction's Harry Styles, when she won for “Best Female Video” for the song, "I Knew You Were Trouble."
She said, “And I want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is because now I got one of these. Thank you!"
Sitting in the audience, Styles kept his cool through it all.
When it was Styles’ turn to appear on stage, viewers could see Swift saying, "Shut the [expletive] up" to her pal Selena Gomez.
Justin Timberlake got the Video Vanguard Award. He also had the longest performance in the history of the VMA’s at more than 15 minutes. The rumors that he'd be re-uniting with his *NSYNC bandmates turned out to be true.
The night belonged to Timberlake, but it was Cyrus who stole the show, and not necessarily in a good way.
