Robin Roberts Announces She's Gay

Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts revealed she's gay by publicly thanking her longtime girlfriend for her support. INSIDE EDITION has the story.

Good Morning America's Robin Roberts has come out.

She did it in a holiday message she posted on Facebook to her friends, family and supporters, writing: "I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together."

"Robin Out Does Herself" says the New York Post. While the Daily News says "Out & Out Courage."

It's the first time Roberts has publicly acknowledged her long term relationship with her girlfriend of 10 years, Amber Laign, who accompanied Roberts to this year's ESPY awards.

So, who is Amber Laign?

She's a massage therapist, treating people with serious injuries. A native of San Francisco, she met Roberts through mutual friends.

Roberts' Facebook message also showed gratitude for all the support she received over the last year as she underwent a bone marrow transplant because of a blood disorder.

"I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life."

Her announcement got the attention of the White House. Michelle Obama tweeted: "Barack and I have you in our prayers. We believe in you and thank you for bringing awareness and hope to others. - mo." The mo signature means Michelle Obama initiated the tweet personally.

Already, the Facebook message has received more than 55,000 likes and thousands of supportive messages, like: "You are truly an inspriation to so many in so many ways!"

Another said: "I love you Robin Roberts! I think you are one of the most exceptional people on the air now."

The news about Roberts' sexuality comes just one year after Roberts' GMA colleague, Sam Champion, came out.

Roberts is on vacation so she wasn't on Good Morning America today and there was no discussion about her Facebook message.

ABC News released a statement: "We love Robin and Amber, who we adore and have all known for a long time. We were so touched by her Facebook message today and so thankful for all the loving support she has in her life."
