Nigella Lawson went on Good Morning America to discuss her feelings about being a witness in the trial that exposed details of her personal life. INSIDE EDITION explains.
Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson spoke about the criminal trial that exposed shocking details of her private life, including her cocaine use.
She said, “To have not only your private life, but distortions of your private life, put on display is mortifying!”
The domestic goddess told Good Morning America’s Amy Robach she felt like she was the one on trial.
Robach asked, “At times, did you feel like you were on trial?”
Lawson said, “Well, I did, but it's one of the niceties of the English legal system that you're not allowed any counsel if you're a witness. That might change, maybe that's good.”
Lawson was promoting the premiere of her cooking show, The Taste.
She said she has already blocked out the memory of testifying about her private life.
“I can't really remember exactly. You're so focused on answering the questions to the best of your ability, that you actually don't have enormous awareness of yourself. Maybe that's a good thing,” said Lawson.
Lawson’s two personal assistants, sisters Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, were acquitted of charging over a million dollars in luxury vacations and expensive clothes on credit cards belonging to her and her ex-husband, billionaire Charles Saatchi.
She said, “My only desire was to protect my children as much as possible which I was not allowed, couldn't do, but that's what I wanted to do. “
But she also managed to joke in the midst of her pain and humiliation. She said, “Since then, I’ve eaten a lot of chocolate, had a very good Christmas, and I’m into the New Year!”
