Renee Zellweger's shocking transformation is bringing the 45-year-old star a lot of scrutiny and even ridicule.

But now the ex-boyfriend of the Oscar-winning actress is rushing to her defense. Rhett Baker dated Zellweger when she was a cheerleader and he was a star on the football team at their high school in Katy, Texas.

He told INSIDE EDITION, “It angers me. I feel for her and I don't understand it.”

Now, with Zellweger's new look causing an uproar. ABC's Nightline asked, "Has the search for perfection gone too far?"

Aisha Tyler on The Talk said, "Renee doesn't look like Renee!"

Baker is determined to defend his former sweetheart when no one else will.

Here's what Zellweger said when she was asked about that transformation, “Oh my God! You would ask me that question? Can you excuse me please? I have better things to do and I’m sure you have too.”

Baker, now married with three children, still treasures the time when he was Zellweger's beau and shares those memories with his wife, Allison.

Allison is also defending Zellweger's transformation by a photographer, saying, “I think it's silly. I think she looks great. She looks beautiful. I’m happy that she's happy.”

And Rhett Baker has this message for the besieged star: “Renee, you are a beautiful woman and I wouldn't worry about what anybody is saying.”
