Mel Gibson's Reportedly Apologized to Oksana

Mel Gibson reportedly sent Oksana Grigorieva a string of text messages the day after he allegedly hit her, apologizing and asking to see her.  INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

Brace yourself for a mellow Mel Gibson.  He reportedly sent apologetic text messages to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva the day after he allegedly hit her!

Gibson text:  "Oksana, I wasn't safe for you last night.  I spent two hours with a therapist today and I have regained some perspective.  What I'm telling you know is that I am safe and would like to come by and make amends to you, Sascha and Lucia.  I won't stay, just let you say your peace and I'll say mine.  Let me know if it's alright!"

INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret reports from the Los Angeles courthouse, where the custody battle for baby Lucia is taking place.  If the text messages are for real, they would indicate that Gibson was truly sorry for his behavior.

Radaronline.com is saying that Gibson began texting Grigorieva at 3:25 p.m. on January 7th, the day after he allegedly hit Grigorieva while she was holding their baby.  A tirade that was reportedly witnessed by Grigorieva's 12-year-old son, Sascha.

Gibson reportedly bombarded Grigorieva with texts when she didn't immediately reply to his request to come over.

Gibson text:  "Let me know either way."

Gibson text:  "Yes or no."

Gibson text:  "It's important that I apologize to Sascha before he goes."

Gibson text:  "Please respond one way or another."

Psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere said, "He is desperate.  He is feeling awful.  He is feeling guilt.  He knows that what he's done is terrible, that there will be repercussions in his relationship."

When Grigorieva reportedly replied half an hour later, her text message was blunt and to the point.

Grigorieva text:  "I have two broken front teeth and a concussion.  I cannot c u today, I'm hurting.  U can apologize to Sascha some other time."

It's said that Gibson replied with five straight texts.  The first dealing with Grigorieva's broken teeth.

Gibson text.  "Did you get them fixed yet?"

Gibson test:  "When can I see you?"

Gibson text:  "I need to see you this evening and then I promise I'll leave you alone for as long as you want."

Gibson text:  "If only for 10 minutes."

Gibson text:  "Please."

Radaronline.com also reports that Gibson went into a tirade at his Malibu home last December, slamming a chair through a glass door while Oksana and the baby cowered nearby.  A radaronline.com source quotes Grigorieva as saying Gibson was "literally foaming at the mouth."

At a New York premiere for the movie Get Low, Sissy Spacek, who starred with Gibson in the 1984 film The River,  had this to say about the embattled star.

"He was always a delightful man to me.  I wouldn't even begin to comment on someone's personal life.  He's a good friend," said Spacek.
