Filmmaker and online prankster Yousef Erakat wanted to turn the tables on the topic of homelessness.
Posing as a homeless man, as people walked by he offered to give them money, instead of asking for a handout. Many of the reactions were surprising.
Most of the people seemed irritated that a homeless person would offer them money. One passerby even said, "Do I look like I need your money?"
Erakat told INSIDE EDITION, "The experiment has been on my radar for over two years now. I just never knew the proper message I was trying to convey until one night it hit me. I at first was going to go up to people and give them money as their EQUAL but then thought no, why not try it with someone below their social class. The results were absolutely shocking and something we could have never expected"
Erakat said, "This video wasn’t one of those, 'Oh let’s see if people offer us money.' It was, 'let’s see how people feel about themselves when someone who is classified as 'lesser' than them on societies class ladder offers them money.' The results were not expected and not wanted. It doesn’t matter how much you have in life if what you have in life takes away from you being humble."
