"Bailout Boyfriend" Defends Himself

The "bailout boyfriend" defends himself to INSIDE EDITION about the foul ball seen around the nation that hit his girlfriend while he jumped out of the way.

This young woman predicted she would get hit by a foul ball at a major league baseball game, and she was, right on the arm!

"I was like, I told you I was gonna get hit!  I told you," said Sara Saco-Vertiz.

What Sara couldn't have predicted was that her boyfriend would jump out of the way instead of protecting her from the speeding ball!

"I saw it coming at me and I was like, uh oh.  It was just one of those things that you don't have time to really react," said Sara.

The announcer at the game said, "Well, chivalry is dead."

It happened in Houston, at a game between the Astros and the Atlanta Braves.  The foul ball went into the left field stands, and suddenly 18-year-old Bo Wyble became famous...as a dodger!

INSIDE EDITION's Paul Boyd said, "You seemed to be getting out of the way in a hurry!"

"I stood up to catch it and I lost it in the lights," said Bo.

Boyd asked Sara how this has affected their relationship.

Sara said, "I think we've got more of a laugh out of it than anything.  It's just fun."

That's not how the general public saw it.  Hundreds of thousands have seen the "bailout boyfriend" on YouTube, and the internet comments are none too friendly.

"She should dump him."

"That dude won't get a date ever again.  At least not with my daughter."

"George Costanza would be proud."

That last one is a reference to the Seinfeld episode in which a cowardly George Costanza flees from a fire, shoving past the women and children!

Boyd asked, "Are you the bailout boyfriend?"

"No, I'm not.  I like her a lot.  She means a lot to me.  If it happened again, it'd be a whole different story," said Bo.
