Heart-Wrenching Scene of Dog Lying by Navy SEAL's Coffin Brought to Life in New 'Max' Film

An image that struck the hearts of many, a dog lying by his soldier owner's coffin, is being brought to the big screen.

It's the photo that broke our hearts. The funeral of a brave Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan and his faithful dog that sat motionless beside the coffin, grieving for his master.

Now, the famous image has been brought to life in the new movie, Max.

Max is the story of a dog of war shipped back to the U.S. after his master is killed in Afghanistan.

The movie’s writer and director, Boaz Yakin said, “We did see that photo and we definitely did incorporate that into the movie.”

Lauren Graham plays the slain Marine's mother. INSIDE EDITION spoke to her and co-star Thomas Haden Church about the funeral scene.

Graham said, "It was beautiful. It was hard. The whole day was very impactful."

Five dogs were used to play Max in the movie. A Belgian Malinois named Jagger was the toast of the red carpet at Tuesday night's premier in Los Angeles. 

Max hits theaters on Friday.
