Tourist Takes Jaw-Dropping Selfie On Top of the Brooklyn Bridge

As security is beefed up for the 4th of July weekend in NYC, one tourist took an epic selfie on the Brooklyn Bridge.

A tourist has sparked uproar after scaling the Brooklyn Bridge and snapping a jaw-dropping selfie.

The photo was taken amid security concerns ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. The NYPD says it will be "vigilant and prepared" for a possible terrorist attack over the holiday.

David Karnauch, a University Of Tennessee engineering student who was visiting New York, posted the image to his Instagram page.

"It was spontaneous," he told INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander. "That is what I like to do for fun, get a little adrenaline rush."

Karnauch says he was on the pedestrian walkway of the bridge on Monday when he climbed an outer beam before anyone noticed.

He was just a few feet above traffic and used a selfie stick to snap his picture against the New York City skyline.

This is just the latest security breach at the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. A year ago, two German artists caused a scare when they replaced two American flags atop the towers of the bridge with massive white flags.

And the previous year, three skydivers shared startling footage after jumping off One World Trade Center when it was under construction.

On the latest incident, the NYPD says in a statement: "The person most endangered was the individual whose goal seems to be bringing attention to himself.

"It was however, irresponsible and illegal. Had the officers patrolling the bridge arrived while he was there, he would have been arrested, as others have been."

Karnauch said he wanted to apologize to the NYPD for the criticism they had received for the breach.

"It's definitely going to make me think twice before I do something like that again," he told INSIDE EDITION.
