Beverly Johnson Reacts to Bill Cosby Deposition: 'I Wasn't Surprised. It Is Sad.'

A 2005 deposition has been released in which Bill Cosby admits to drugging women to have sex with them.

Beverly Johnson is reacting to the bombshell admission from Bill Cosby that he drugged women to have sex.

Johnson told INSIDE EDITION: "I wasn't surprised. It is sad. I don't revel in someone's downfall." She also said: "Sexual assault is devastating. There is no way to walk it back. It came out of the horse’s mouth.”

The admission from Cosby came under oath during a 2005 deposition that has just been made public. Cosby answered questions about giving Quaaludes, a powerful sedative to a woman who was not named in the deposition. INSIDE EDITION has learned it was Theresa Serignese.

A lawyer asked the comic: “When you got the Quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these Quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?”

Cosby answered "Yes... I give her Quaaludes. We then have sex."

Fifty-seven-year-old Serignese of Boca Raton, Florida, told INSIDE EDITION last year that she was drugged and raped by Cosby when she was 19-years-old.

She told INSIDE EDITION: "That was a wrong that he did, purposely, he did with intent to take advantage of me and rape me."

She says she met Cosby when he was doing standup in Las Vegas in 1976.

The admission from Cosby came during a deposition into allegations by Temple University employee Andrea Constand that Cosby drugged and raped her. The deposition revealed that Cosby had seven separate prescriptions for Quaaludes.

In the deposition, a lawyer asked Cosby: "You gave them to other people?"

"Yes," he replied.

Cosby has never been charged criminally. More than two dozen women have now accused Cosby of drugging and raping them.

When Beverly Johnson first made the claim against Cosby singer Jill Scott defended him on Twitter and wrote: "U know Bill Cosby and this is insane. Proof. Period."

Now, Jill Scott is admitting she was wrong, tweeting: “Sadly his own testimony offers proof of terrible deeds, which is all I have ever required to believe the accusations. I stood by a man I respected and loved. I was wrong. It hurts!!!”

Johnson told INSIDE EDITION: "I think it is a very big person that can come out and say, 'I was wrong.' I have a lot of respect for Jill, I always did, but I have even more respect for her now."

Johnson talks about her encounter with Cosby in her new book, The Face That Changed It All. It's out August 25 but available on pre-order now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes.

Johnson said: "The book is not about Bill Cosby. It is only one chapter in my life, but I think it is an important chapter."

More than 40 women have now accused Cosby of drugging and raping them. Barbara Bowman was one of the first to come forward.

INSIDE EDITION spoke to her today, she said: “I feel vindicated. I feel hopeful. He is losing the most important thing in his world and that is his legacy and I know he wanted that more than anything.”

The women of The View talked about the stunning bombshell revelation. Host Raven Simon played little Olivia on The Cosby Show, she said: “I don’t really like to talk about it that much. He is the reason I am on this panel in the first place. He gave me my first job.”

After the release of the 2005 deposition, a representative for Cosby said: "The only reason Mr. Cosby settled was because it would have been embarrassing in those days to put all those women on the stand and his family had no clue. That would have been very hurtful."

Cosby has denied any wrongdoing.
