Sandra Lee Returns to Hospital For Surgery: 'I'm a Long Way From Where I Need to Be'

The 48-year-old, who is the long-time girlfriend of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, suffered complications after a double mastectomy earlier this year.

Celebrity chef Sandra Lee is undergoing surgery again.

The 48-year-old long-time girlfriend of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo suffered complications after a double mastectomy earlier this year.

She spent a few days in hospital last week but went back home over the weekend. A representative says she was placed on "heavy antibiotics."

She will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Lee announced the procedure on her Facebook page, where she has regularly been updating fans with her progress.

 

"I did my very best to avoid this (when I tell you I did everything, I mean everything — modern, Eastern and holistic) but infection is an incredible monster," she explained.

"I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey."

She added: "And to be absolutely clear what I am going through is nothing compared to what many of my sisters experience - to them and their families and support systems I say: Stay strong, focus on the light and I send you my love."

Lee was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and underwent a double mastectomy in May.
