Uggie The Dog, Who Starred in 'The Artist', Dies Aged 13

Uggie, the award-winning dog from 'The Artist', has passed away.

Uggie, the famous Jack Russell Terrier from the Oscar-winning film The Artist, has died.

The 13-year-old pooch was put to sleep on Friday. His owner and trainer, Omar von Muller, confirmed the news on Facebook on Wednesday morning.

The Artist swept hearts in 2011 when the silent French film arrived in theaters. It eventually would win five Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.

Uggie even walked the red carpet at the Oscar ceremony in 2012.

The previous year, at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, he was awarded the Palm Dog for his role in the motion picture.

Uggie even wrote his own memoir, had his paws placed in cement outside Graumann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, and was Nintendo’s first spokesdog before retiring.
