Kathie Lee Gifford returned to the Today show on Monday morning - just a week after the sudden death of her husband, Frank Gifford.
Joined by her co-host Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee became emotional as she thanked viewers for their support.
"We laughed until the very end," she said of her marriage to the NFL legend.
Hoda tweeted the news of Kathie Lee's return on Monday morning:
Frank, who was 23 years Kathie Lee's senior, passed away on August 9 at their home in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was 84.
Kathie Lee said they were getting ready for church when he died.
“He passed away instantly that morning in my favorite outfit – white shirt and very tight black jeans. He was having his coffee, watching TV and asking what was going to be for lunch,” she said.
As she teared up talking about her late husband, she said: “That was the way he wanted to go.”
Kathie Lee also shared details of his very humble beginnings. His upbringing “made him so grateful,” she said.
“He knew what it was like to be hungry. He knew what it was like to have no clothes on his back,” she said. “He’s the most grateful human being I’ve ever known. They had nothing but they had their faith.”
Frank Gifford left behind five children. He has three from a previous marriage, and two with Kathie Lee - Cassidy and Cody.
