The comedian will host Saturday Night Live on October 17, it was announced on Monday. It will mark the first return to comedy for Morgan, who was a SNL cast member from 1996 to 2003.

Morgan was critically injured in June 2014 when his limo van was hit by a Walmart truck. He reportedly suffered brain damage and continues physical rehab.

Morgan's close friend, fellow comedian James McNair, was killed in the accident and his family settled with Walmart for $10 million.

Morgan sued Walmart and reached an undisclosed settlement with the company.

"Walmart did right by me and my family,” Morgan said in a statement earlier this year. “I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably."

He marked the year anniversary of the accident by speaking to Today’s Matt Lauer.

He told him: “I love comedy and wonder how I’m going to be funny again. I'm going to get to it and the fans let me know, 'We can't wait for you to come back. We can't wait for you to come back.' I can't wait to make them laugh again."

Morgan will host SNL's third episode of the series. Miley Cyrus and Amy Schumer will host the previous two shows.
