Mom Flags Down Cops to Help With Her Son's Tie on First Day of School: 'We're Here to Serve'

These California police officers dutifully stepped in when a mother flagged them down to help with her son's school tie before his first day of school.

Photos shared by the Los Angeles Police Department show Officers Jonathan Maldonado and Alberto Ledesma helping the 14-year-old boy with his tie at the side of a road.

The officers saw Xavier Cazales and his mother waving frantically at their patrol car last Thursday.

"We slowed down and asked them what was going on and they seemed a little nervous to say," Officer Maldonado told NBC. "They asked if we knew how to tie a tie."

The officers got out of the car to help.

Maldonado added that the woman "was almost embarrassed and said she had been looking at YouTube videos to learn how to tie a tie."

Xavier was heading to an orientation day at Bishop Mora Salesian High School.

Speaking to INSIDE EDITION, Maldonado said they were happy to help.

"We're here to serve the community," he said. "It doesn't matter however insignificant they think it is. If it's something that's important to them... then we're here to help them out. We have an opportunity to go out every day and share the grace of God."

The officers were invited to a presentation at the boy's school so staff could thank them for their time. 

At the presentation, Officer Ledesma added: "We're all here for you. Anytime you guys need anything, we're here for you."

They were each given a school tie - and the cops gave Xavier a pre-knotted tie so he doesn't face the same trouble in the future.
