Casey Anthony Prosecutor Named Among Ashley Madison Users: 'I'm Not Very Proud of Myself'

Florida Attorney Jeff Ashton has issued an apology after it emerged he joined the notorious website for cheaters.

The chief prosecutor in the Casey Anthony trial has apologized for joining Ashley Madison, the website for cheaters.

Jeff Ashton, the state attorney for Orange and Osceola counties in Florida, emerged as an Ashley Madison customer after hackers released the details of millions of users last week.

"Today I'm not very proud of myself," he said at a press conference on Sunday.

He apologized to his wife and seven children as he admitted to signing up to the site during the press conference.

"Two years ago, I was curious about the Ashley Madison website, and I used my personal credit card to sign up for the site,” he said.

“I deeply regret my affiliation with the site, which has caused a great amount of stress and heartache to my wife and children. I want to publicly apologize to each of them for this embarrassment and for my blatant disregard for their feelings.”

But he insisted that he did not meet anyone and did not have an affair.

"While I indulged my curiosity about the site, it never went beyond that," he said. "These were incredibly stupid choices… I am proud of [my] work, and what we've accomplished thus far, but today I'm not very proud of myself."

It comes amid reports that a San Antonio police captain and two people in Canada took their lives after they were outed as having accounts.

The company behind Ashley Madison is now offering a $500,000 Canadian (US $378,000) reward for information leading to the arrest of members of a group that hacked the site.

Popular YouTube star Sam Nader, who appeared in a pregnancy announcement video with his wife Nia this summer, was also named as a former user of the site. Their video went viral but they later released another, revealing she had suffered a miscarriage.

"The account was opened out of pure fleshly desires and sinful curiosity,” he explained in a video after the hack. “I never met with a single person through that site and I never had an affair with anybody ever.”

His wife added that she had forgiven him.

Josh Duggar was also named as a user of the site, and admitted that he had cheated on his wife, Anna, with whom he has four children.
