Footage released by the organizers of the "Face of Leonardo: Images of a Genius" exhibition in Taipei shows the boy's unfortunate fall.

The boy, who was holding a drink, tripped and stumbled over the protective rope and used the painting to break his fall. Instead, he broke the painting.

Organizers will not ask the boy’s family to pay for restoration costs, according to Taiwan News.

According to The Guardian, exhibition organizer, Sun Chi-hsuan said the boy was nervous but should not be blamed and the painting, which is part of a private collection, is insured.

“The painting’s bottom right is damaged,” Sun later told reporters. “The boy’s hand made contact with the artwork and left a hole the size of a fist.”
