Anaheim Police Sgt. Ryan Blackburn said the 23-year-old victim became involved in an altercation during a screening of the film in Orange and was stabbed nearby at about 9:35 pm on Monday.

A police spokesperson said they do not believe the stabbing had anything to do with the movie, which had sparked security concerns at the time of its release.

Orange Police said the man was drunk when he went to the theater, the OCRegister reported.

After disturbing other people during the movie, staff removed him and another man, police said. The men then walked to Anaheim, where the stabbing occured, police said.

Police say the victim was stabbed twice in the chest. He was found at a nearby gas station and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Orange police and Anaheim police are both involved in the investigation.

It marks the first altercation since the film opened two weeks ago. Theaters have beefed up security out of fears of violence.

The movie’s studio, Universal, previously said they would “support” theaters adding extra security for the film, which has made more than $111 million.

"The studio has not solicited enhanced security for theaters who will begin showing it this weekend, but has partnered with those exhibitors who have requested support for their locations," a Universal spokesperson said.
