""This is a recruitment bonanza for Al Qaeda. I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform," said President Obama.
The President looked pained as he spoke on Good Morning America about pastor Terry Jones, who now tells USA Today that a direct call from the White House "would cause us to definitely think it over."
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is joining the growing chorus of public figures condemning the Koran burning. INSIDE EDITION caught up with him at the dedication of the New York apartment building named in his honor.
"It's not good. It's creating an impression around the world that America is not the America that the world was taught to believe in," said Powell.
Sarah Palin is also appealing to the pastor to change his mind, tweeting, "Koran burning is insensitive, unnecessary; Pastor Jones, please stand down."
Even the late night comedians are heaping ridicule on the pastor who's created a worldwide uproar.
Jay Leno said, "The pastor claims he's going to 'talk to God' before he decides what to do. How many think God has this guy on his Do Not Call list?"
David Letterman joked, "I'm having a bad day. A southern preacher came in here today and tried to burn all the copies of last night's show."
Jimmy Kimmel got his zinger in with, "This is a picture of Terry Jones. As you can see, he also thought it was a good idea to grow a Hulk Hogan mustache."
