The attorney representing the convicted leader of the so-called "Bling Ring" tells INSIDE EDITION the most recent accusations against him are simply the product of law enforcement officials with an ax to grind.
Nicholas Prugo, 24, who previously plead guilty to orchestrating a series of burglaries of celebrity homes, has been accused of stalking a Hollywood skin expert and soliciting men to rape her.
Along with 31-year-old Edward Feinsten, he has been charged with multiple counts of stalking and one count each of solicitation to commit sexual assault, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.
Prosecutors charge that the men planned to stalk skin expert Dawn DaLuise and her two daughters between December 1, 2013 and April 1, 2014, and allegedly went as far as publishing an online ad that claimed DaLuise wanted to participate in a rape fantasy.
DaLuise claimed to know nothing of the ad, which included her address. She said that unknown men came to her home, the complaint said.
But Tamar Arminak, who represents both Prugo and Feinstein, said the allegations stem from the lack of charges brought up against DaLuise in a separate case. In that case, the woman was arrested and charged in 2014 with trying to solicit the murder of a business competitor but was acquitted of all charges.
DaLuise subsequently filed a lawsuit against the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, claiming authorities relied on but did not properly vet Feinstein before using him as a witness to testify against her.
Arminak pointed to the lost case against DaLuise as the reason for her clients' most recent arrests.
"My client denies the allegations against him. It’s pretty clear that we have a detective who struck out trying to convict Ms. DaLuise, and is now trying to take a second shot on a high profile case by going after these boys," Arminak said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to comment. An official with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department noted that the Los Angeles Police Department, an entirely separate branch of law enforcement, arrested Prugo and Feinstein in connection to this incident. A spokesman with the LAPD declined to comment.
