Severe flooding in drought-stricken California has caused massive mudslides, stranded motorists and shut down a state highway.
Frantic motorists dialed 911 from submerged vehicles. Helicopter video captured one man standing on the hood of his truck late Thursday.
State Route 58 remains closed after a hillside collapsed onto the highway, stranding about 200 cars in a river of mud. It will take days to clear the east-west artery, authorities said.
Los Angeles and Kern counties got up to six inches of rain during the deluge. There were no reports of injuries.
