The Force Has Awakened: New 'Star Wars' Trailer Crashes Movie Ticket Sites

Excitement over the new 'Star Wars' movie has gone into hyperspeed.

The latest Star Wars trailer dropped and has taken over this galaxy and beyond.

Fan commentary on the trailer for The Force Awakens was tweeted 17,000 times per minute after its release less than 24 hours ago. The trailer has gained more than nine million views since it was posted to YouTube.

As soon as the trailer hit the web and television, tickets for the most anticipated film of the year went on sale.

Ticket presales temporarily crashed sites like Fandango and MovieTickets.com. The film, which opens on Christmas, already has tickets listed on eBay going for $400.

While the trailer features old favorites like Han Solo and Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker is noticeably absent.

It has caused fans around the world to generate conspiracy theories, including that he is living in exile or that he's possibly gone to the dark side like his father, Darth Vader.

Before the trailer even debuted, the official movie poster was released and gained 204,000 likes just on Instagram.

But as anticipation the new film grows, some fans started a racist boycott of the J.J. Abrams film, claiming the movie to be “Anti-White” after it was revealed that one of the leads in The Force Awakens is black.
