Authorities are searching for a five-month-old girl whose mom allegedly lost her in a South Carolina creek.
The child's mother, 33-year-old Sarah Lane Toney, was arrested on an outstanding warrant unrelated to the incident, Horry County police said.
Toney allegedly took her baby, named Grace, into a creek in Socastee on Tuesday morning and left the child in the water, WBTW reported.
The channel reported that a nearby homeowner found the mother dripping wet on her back porch.
"That homeowner in checking on her found out she had either put the baby or lost her baby in the creek," Lt. Raul Denis said.
Divers with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources searched for the child throughout Tuesday but the search was called off on Tuesday night when the waters became too high.
"The water is really fast and turbulent and muddy so it's not ideal for any diver to be in it," Denis added.
Authorities said they will resume it on Wednesday morning. K-9 agents are also assisting.
