Questions are surfacing in the story of a woman who says her husband was shot by pirates on a lake when they crossed the Mexican border. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
"I had to leave him, so I could get to safety," she said.
A grieving widow speaks out about the murder of her husband by pirates as they Jet-Skied on a lake that straddles the U.S.-Mexico border.
"I had to turn him over because he was face down in the water. I turned him over and he was shot in the head," she said.
29-year-old Tiffany Hartley appeared on the network morning shows Tuesday as questions are being raised about her story.
Mexican authorities now say in a statement: "We are not certain that the incident happened the way they are telling us."
On The Early Show, Maggie Rodriguez pointed out that, "he's not sure things happen the way you claim. There's no evidence of a shooting and they would have found David by now because he was wearing a life vest."
"I can understand why they're asking these questions, but as far as we know, we don't think they have been looking," she said.
In the 911 call obtained by INSIDE EDITION, the dispatcher asks, "Are you sure that your husband got shot?"
"Yes, in his head. He was thrown off the Jet Ski and I couldn't pick him up to get him on mine," Hartley replied.
Hartley described the agonizing moment when she says the pirates shot her husband David during a sight-seeing visit to a partially submerged church on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake.
"After I had seen some bullets hit the water next to me, I looked back to check on David and I saw him fly over the Jet Ski. He had been hit," Hartley said on The Today Show.
His mother Pam made a heart-wrenching appeal on Good Morning America to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for help in recovering his body.
"Hillary, mother to mother, help me bring my son home, please," Pam said.
