Woman Who Needs Kidney Transplant Discovers Girlfriend She Met on Tinder is a Match
When Alana Duran was paired with Lori Interlicchio on Tinder, she got more than just a love match.
The 25-year-old, who had been on the kidney donor list for four years, was shocked to discover that her girlfriend was also a kidney match.
Alana burst into tears before embracing Lori.
"Who knew that when we both swiped right on Tinder that day, that we would be more than just girlfriends but that she would be my kidney donor!" Alana wrote on Facebook.
Alana was 12 when she was diagnosed with lupus, which can lead to kidney failure. She has been on dialysis, which she undergoes for 10 hours a night, since 2011.
Speaking to INSIDE EDITION, Lori explained that she went to get tested in the very early stages of her relationship with Alana. They weren't even officially dating at the time, she said - but that didn't put her off.
"I just figured that she deserves it," she said. "Even before we were dating she was a nice person who deserved to have a functioning kidney, and I had two."
Lori said she thought "even if I can’t give her a kidney, I can be a match for someone else."
But after undergoing a series of tests, it turned out she was just the right fit.
"My mind was blown," she said. "I didn’t even know what to do. Part of me was about to text her but since she’s my girlfriend I knew I should make something bigger out of this."
She managed to keep the good news secret for two months and after the doctor gave her the final OK, Lori thought the care package was the perfect way to share the news.
"She made a similar care package for me before I took a test, so she just thought I was doing something nice for her," she explained.
Lori said that the date for the surgery still isn't finalized but they hope it will be in February.
