Brothers Pose for Bald Eagle Selfie After Saving the Bird from Hunter's Trap

Two Canadian brothers rescued a majestic eagle and posed with the raptor for a quick selfie before setting it free.

A pair of brothers in Canada are getting a taste of internet fame after they rescued a bald eagle that was caught in a trap then posted a selfie they took with the bird on Facebook.

Michael Fletcher of Sudbury, Ontario and his brother Neil were out hunting grouse last week when they spotted the majestic raptor as it appeared to struggle in the woods.

Upon closer inspection, they realized its talon was stuck in a trap.

"When we got close to the bird, it tried to fly away. So I took my hoodie off and put it around its head, it calmed it right down," Fletcher told NBC News.The brothers also set up a cell phone to record the encounter. In the video, the men work to free the bird as their golden retriever looks on.

After several minutes, the bird is out of the trap and ready to fly. But not before Neil had an idea.

"He’s like, 'Oh grab your phone. We should take a selfie,'" Fletcher told BuzzFeed.

The men were all smiles as they snapped the rare photo. And, as luck would have it, even the eagle appeared to shoot the camera a grin.

The footage of the enounter has been shared thousands of times since it was posted on Facebook, but it's their quick pose with the eagle that has truly gone viral.

“Everybody thinks it’s like the selfie of the year,” Fletcher said.
