University of Rochester Seniors Kidnapped From Campus Are Freed From Nearby Home by Police

Four people were taken into custody, according to reports.

Two college seniors were rescued one day after they were kidnapped and held captive about four miles from their upstate New York campus, officials said.

Ani Okeke Ewo and Nicholas Kollias, both from Illinois, were last seen about 2 a.m. Saturday near the University of Rochester in a white vehicle with a license plate from their home state, police said.

Police said at the time that they believed there was no threat to the safety of others at the University.

Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli told reporters that investigators learned the men had been taken under “suspicious circumstances,” saying that the pair, who had been “forcibly abducted,” was being held in a home on Harvest Street in northeast Rochester.

A SWAT team found the men around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, officials said.

University of Rochester President Joel Seligen, told reporters at a press conference: "There is a collective sense of relief tonight that all of us feel. This could have turned out in a very different way."

Both students were taken to a nearby hospital, where one of the victims was treated for a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound.

Four people were taken into custody, according to reports.

Law enforcement took to social media to alert the community that the men were no longer missing, writing on Facebook and Twitter on Monday: “Both U of R students have been located and are safe!”

It was not clear why the students were kidnapped. An investigation into the incident was ongoing.
