Four blocks of Hollywood Boulevard have been shut down. By comparison, the red-carpet canopy at the Academy Awards takes up only one city block.

Three iconic theaters will be showing the premiere of the film, the TCL Chinese Theatre, the Dolby Theatre and the El Capitan Theatre.

The TCL Chinese Theater, formerly known as the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, hosted the premiere of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, in May 1977.

Some fans of the franchise have been camped out for weeks but they won't get into the premiere, which is invitation-only. They'll have to wait until the official opening on Thursday night.

One fan told INSIDE EDITION about how excited he was by saying "on a scale of one to a million, I am a billion."

Another said that her "head was going to explode" in anticipation.
