Animal lovers went above and beyond to rescue three dogs that were abandoned on the side of a mountain in California.

Animal lovers went above and beyond to rescue three dogs that were abandoned on the side of a mountain in California.

Volunteers with Hope For Paws braved the elements to save the three pups, believed to be sisters, who had been stranded 7,600 feet above ground level in Wrightwood, the rescue organization said.

Steep drops and below-freezing temperatures made for treacherous conditions for the dogs to survive in. Local rescuers had tried to reach the dogs for more than a week but were unsuccessful, according to video of the rescue.

One dog, later named Ginger, was successfully coaxed toward volunteers with the promise of food. The tiniest of the pups put up a fight at first, but soon she went along happily.

After Ginger was whisked away to safety, her sister, Sage, followed.

Finally, the third in the trio, Emma, was rescued from the mountain.

To get the animals to safety, volunteers had to scale the side of the mountain.

Sage and Emma were fostered together and soon adopted. Ginger is still waiting for her forever home. Those interested in adopting the smallest of the three can contact Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue here.
