Miss Washington D.C. Pays Tribute to 'Outstanding Marine' Brother Missing in Hawaii Crash

Tommy Jardas was one of the 12 Marines who presumably went down with the two helicopters that were lost near Hawaii on Thursday.

The beauty queen sister of one of the 12 Marines whose helicopters crashed off the Hawaii coast has honored her brother with some kind words.

While military officials showed no signs of giving up the search for the men aboard the two missing CH-53E helicopters, Haely Jardas wrote on Facebook about her little brother, Thomas.

"The sun still sets...even without my little brother, a good man and an outstanding Marine," Jardas, the current Miss Washington D.C., posted to Facebook.

Cpl. Thomas Jardas, a 22-year-old who hails from Florida, was among the four officers and eight enlisted Marines who make up the missing men.

Early Monday, as the search for the men entered its fourth day, Jardas again took to Facebook amid a wave of support from friends and followers.

"People have been saying that they can't think of the words to say. Just knowing that people are there while the search efforts for Tommy continue has meant so much to me," she wrote. "And if you can't think of the words to say, emojis and pictures of puppies are more than appropriate."

The Miss D.C. Organization, a feeder pageant for the Miss America competition, said in a statement obtained by the AP that its thoughts and prayers are with Haely Jardas and her family.

Executive director Tricia Lloyd said Haely has flown to Florida to be with her family and the organization has asked that her privacy be respected.

Despite dangerously high surf conditions, there was no indication over the weekend that officials planned to curb their huge rescue efforts.

The continued efforts had families, like that of Maj. Shawn Campell, 41, clinging to hope.

"My husband and I want everyone to know that this is not about us," Donna McGrew, Campbell's mother, said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press. "This is about the families that are suffering, and about all the sacrifices that our military members and their families make on a daily basis."
