Officers Rescue a Pelican Choking on a Large Fish

Two Florida Animal Service Officers rescued a choking pelican after finding a fish head stuck in its beak.

Animal services responded to a call of a sick pelican near a dock off the Florida coast.

When Animal Service Officers Heather Belknap and Kimberly Guile arrived on the scene, they discovered the struggling animal was choking.

They opened the bird’s beak and pulled out a large fish head.

Photos showing the fish head stuck inside the bird's mouth were posted to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Police say the pelican gave a sigh of relief and went right back into the water.
