A Japanese actor rehearsing a scene died Tuesday when he was impaled by a prop samurai sword.
Police say 33-year-old Daigo Kashino was using a nearly 30-inch sword in a Tokyo studio on Monday when the unthinkable happened.
Kashino was rushed to a hospital but died hours later, according to local media.
While the actor was rehearsing with a group, no one in the room saw exactly how the incident occurred, according to reports.
According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, the other actors turned to Kashino after hearing him groan and found him hunched over.
It wasn't clear whether Kashino was using a real or a mock sword.
The Japan Times reports that an autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
