Graycie was emaciated when she was found on the side of a dirt road in January. Dr. Mathis discovered she was dehydrated, anemic and hypothermic, but he didn't want to give up on her.

So after she received treatment from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, he took her back to the shelter and kept a close eye on her. Slowly, she began to gain weight and confidence.

"She's been eating for the past 2 days, but not so comfortably, unless I leave the room, so today I decided to sit in the cage with her," he wrote on Facebook. "Hopefully, she'll learn to trust people quickly, and be ready for a home and family very soon."
