Todd, 51, suffered the injuries in a snowmobiling accident near Petersville, Alaska on Sunday.

"Thank you for your prayers for a speedy recovery," she wrote. "Knowing Todd, once he's cognizant, he'll probably ask docs to duct tape him up and he'll call it good. He's tough."

Sarah Palin learned about the accident while in Florida, where she's been campaigning for Donald Trump.

The former Alaska governor made a surprise appearance in Tampa on behalf of Trump on Monday afternoon. She introduced New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and thanked supporters for their prayers.

She then cancelled the rest of her appearances to fly back to Alaska to see Todd, according to the Trump campaign.

A statement issued through the campaign said: "Todd Palin was in a bad snow machine accident last night and is currently hospitalized. Gov. Palin is returning to Alaska to be with her husband."

Todd is an avid snowmobile racer and just took part in the Iron Dog, a grueling 2,000-mile snowmobile race across Alaska. On Facebook on Monday, Palin called her husband "the toughest guy I know."

"As any adventurous Alaskan knows, while you may be down, you’re never out," she wrote.

He has been married to Sarah Palin for 28 years and they have five children together.
