Ang Lee, George Takei Receive Apology From Oscars Over 'Tasteless' Asian Jokes

The Academy has responded to 25 members who sent the letter.

Almost three weeks after the Oscars comes yet another apology from the Academy.

A group of 25 members of the Academy who are of Asian descent sent a letter demanding the apology after Chris Rock joked during the event that three Asian children were accountants.

Star Trek star George Takei, director Ang Lee, comic Margaret Cho and actress Sandra Oh were among those who sent the letter.

"We'd like to know how such tasteless and offensive skits could have happened," it read.

The Academy has since responded in a statement.

"It pains us that any aspect of the show was considered offensive, and we apologize for any hurt the skits caused,” it said.
