Former Cruz Staffer Slams Rumors They Had An Affair, Calls Trump A 'Cheater'

She accuses Donald Trump of running a smear campaign.

A former Ted Cruz staffer is fighting back at suggestions she had an affair with the Texas senator following a National Enquirer article accusing him of cheating on his wife.

Amanda Carpenter, Cruz’s former communications director, took to Twitter to denounce the tawdry article and attack Donald Trump, who has denied he was behind the story.

The thing that's especially ironic is that hordes of Trump supporters accuse me of being an adulterer when their candidate really is one.

I've never cheated on my husband. But, Trump has cheated on his wife/wives, MANY times. Chew on that Trumpers.

Carpenter, now a CNN contributor, continued to lash out on Twitter as Trump's social media director released a bizarre video that purportedly shows evidence of her affair with Cruz.

The 30-second clip shows Cruz during an appearance on Fox and Friends last year. In the interview, he sported a Winston Churchill tattoo on his arm while wearing no jacket - in what turned out to be an April Fools' joke.

As so-called "proof" of the affair, the clip then flashes to a picture of Carpenter later that same day wearing a jacket, suggesting it's Cruz’s missing jacket. The clip also points out that Carpenter has the same tattoo of Churchill on her shoulder.

The clip ends with a post written by Carpenter later that same night about a piece of cheese: "My friend and I were working so hard tonight and he got hungry so he's going to slice this fancy cheese for both of us."

The video suggests that Carpenter's friend was Cruz.

After the clip emerged, she tweeted:

I think this April Fool's Day I might break out the fake Churchill tattoo again. Bc that's what it was. A staff wide joke. For April Fool's

Why did I tweet about it early am? So when Cruz went on TV to show his new "tat" there was a warning he was having fun. Keep up Trumpies.

As for Cruz's jacket. Does he wear an elbow length jacket with ruched sleeves? Get back to huffing chem trails, trolls.

And the hotel photo? Great job photoshopping the fake condoms. And, I love that dress. Thx for making it memorable.

Carpenter also accuses the Trump campaign of running a smear crusade against her.

Donald Trump CANNOT say he isn't smearing women when his own social media director is doing it. #NeverTrump

— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) March 28, 2016

How many more Trump men will smear my reputation? @RogerJStoneJr and @DanScavino...who else #SleazyDonald ?

— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) March 28, 2016

I want you to be accountable for harassing me. That's what I want. This is harassment by a presidential campaign. https://t.co/jC0mF0010p

Cruz who vehemently denies the allegations is getting support from former GOP rival Carly Fiorina.

She told the Daily Mail: "This is an example of the media playing to Donald Trump's tune. Donald Trump is a serial philanderer, by his own admission."

Trump was grilled over the “War of the Wives” on a radio talk show on Monday.

He told radio host Charlie Sykes: “Again I didn't start it. He started it. If he didn't start it, it would have never happened. Nothing like this would have never happened but he started it.”

Sykes then told the GOP front-runner: “Remember, were not on a playground. We're running for president of the United States.”

“I agree with that 100 percent,” Trump said. “And my views are not playground views."

Last week Trump threatened to “spill the beans” on Heidi Cruz’s past after a Super PAC that supports Cruz circulated a nude photo of Melania Trump in GQ in 2000, with the caption: “Meet Melania Trump. Your Next First Lady.” The ad was aimed at conservative Mormons in Utah.
