Teen Charged With Stealing Model UFO in Roswell

A 17-year-old boy has been charged as one of three people seen in stealing a decorative spacecraft in surveillance footage, police say.

A Roswell teen has been charged with stealing—what else?—an alien spacecraft.

While not the UFO that believers say crash landed in the New Mexico town in 1947, the model ship was large enough to require three suspects and a truck to haul off from the International UFO Museum and Research Center, police said.

The teen was arrested Saturday and faces larceny and other charges. He has not been identified by officials.

In grainy surveillance footage, three figures can be seen driving up in a pickup truck behind the museum in the early morning hours of March 19.

The spaceship had recently been repaired after it was damaged during a major snowstorm this past winter and was awaiting installment

In the footage, the suspects are seen loading the spaceship into the bed of the pickup and driving away.

Days after the theft, pieces of the spaceship were found along a road, two miles outside Roswell.

It had been destroyed and smashed to bits, Roswell Police said.

Police say the teen declined to say what motivated the alleged theft as he was booked into the Chaves County Juvenile Detention Center. His case will proceed in Children’s Court.

Meanwhile, police continue their search for the other two suspects seen in the surveillance footage.
