Investigators are trying to determine why an airman shot his commander and then himself at a Texas Air Force base.
An airman shot to death his commander and then turned the gun on himself Friday at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, according to local reports.

After receiving calls of an active shooter on the base, Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies found two bodies inside a first-floor office. “There were two Glocks weapons that were found on the scene,” Brig. Gen. Bob LaBrutta of the 502nd Air Base Wing told Fox 29.
Investigators said they are trying to determine a motive. The facility was placed under lockdown while buildings were searched Friday.
Authorities said the shootings were an act of workplace violence.

The identities of the dead were not released, pending notification of their relatives, officials said.
Only security personnel and special investigation agents are allowed to carry weapons on the base, LaBrutta said, according to the Air Force Times.
The sprawling facility is the Air Force’s basic training site.
