Police responded to a medical call at his estate near Minneapolis on Thursday morning.
Grammy Award-winning singer Prince has died age 57.
His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told The Associated Press that he was found dead at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday.

According to Carver County Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud, police responded to a medical call at 9:43 a.m. local time.
Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios, the Sheriff's Office said. Medical staff attempted to give him CPR but they could not revive him.

The “1999” singer was recently hospitalized after suffering flu symptoms while flying on his private jet, which was forced to make an emergency landing in Illinois. The following day, April 16, he assured fans he was well.
Associate Professor at NYU Medical Center Dr. Roshini Raj told IE: “There are thousands of deaths every year to the flu and many people don’t realize that the flu can actually be deadly."
She added: "Most of the time if someone if suffering from a flu or a severe flu they can’t even get out of bed, they have no energy and are really weak. Their immune system needs all the energy to fight off the flu, so it is generally better to stay in bed and rest until you are really up to getting up walking around.
Having the flu can lead to complications that effect the lung like bronchitis or pneumonia, which cause trouble breathing and in severe cases even death."
The singer, born Prince Rogers Nelson, rose to fame in the late 70s and altered the musical landscape thanks to a combination of jazz, funk, R&B, rock, disco and early hip-hop influences.
Born in Minneapolis in 1958, he was discovered in 1975 after forming the band 94 East. A year later he began performing solo, which eventually led to a record contract after major labels like Warner Bros., A&M and Columbia battled to sign him.
Warner eventually released his debut, For You, in 1978.
By 1984, Prince reached A-list status thanks to the soundtrack and film, Purple Rain, which is loosely based on his life. And by the early 90s, the singer changed his name to a symbol and became known as “The artist formerly known as Prince.”

By 2000, he ceased using the symbol as a name and returned as Prince.
He continued to release music until 2015, where he put out two albums, his 38th and 39th albums, Hit n Run Phase One and Hit n Run Phase Two.
He was still very active on stage and touring. He was recently on the "Piano and a Microphone Tour," which was a stripped down, bare bones performance he was having inside intimate theaters across America.
Last year, he performed with Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney at the Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary post-party.
Prince was married to Mayte Garcia in 1996. They had a son who died at the age of one week due to a rare birth defect. They divorced three years later. In 2001, he married Manuela Testolini and they divorced in 2006.
