The Kardashian sisters cancelled their controversial "Kardashian Kard" after it became a public relations nightmare. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
It's a public relations disaster for the Kardashian sisters. They are cancelling their endorsement of a debit card bearing their likenesses after complaints about the "outrageous" fees being charged.
The Kardashians are in the middle of a whirlwind promotional tour for their new book Kardashian Konfidential and fans are lining up around the block to see them, even though their public image is now under fire due to the debit card controversy.
"The fees are what made this card so objectionable and even outrageous," says Connecticut Attorney General and U.S. Senator-elect Richard Blumenthal. He says the Kardashian prepaid MasterCard unfairly targets teenage girls who idolize Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe, stars of the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
"Keeping up with the Kardashians would be absolutely impossible for anybody using this card," quipped Blumenthal.
Monthly fees for the Kardashian debit card are $7.95. Each ATM withdrawal costs $1.50. It's $1 just to make an ATM inquiry and another $1.50 if you call the service center. It costs $9.95 to replace a card, and the fee for cancelling is $6. All of that adds up!
INSIDE EDITION's Paul Boyd asked the Kardashian sisters about the controversy, but their publicist immediately ended the interview.
The Kardashians unveiled the debit card with great fanfare just three weeks ago at a gala in New York City, but on November 29th the sisters issued a termination notice and demanded that their names and images be taken off the card immediately.
Their lawyer, Dennis A. Roach, said the sisters are "honest, ethical and fun-loving individuals who are kind and caring to others...The negative spotlight turned on the Kardashians threatens everything for which they have worked."
