“What are you thinking?” one Twitter user wrote. “You’re too old to get pregnant.”

“How is Janet Jackson pregnant? There should be an age limit,” another read.

But the women of "The Talk" are defending Jackson.

“This 50 is not the 50 of a generation ago,” Aisha Tyler said. “She’s as fit as probably a lot of 30-year-old women were then.”

And she's not alone. A string of celebrity women have welcomed children in their 50s, including Cheryl Tiegs, Joan Lunden and Annie Leibovitz.

Gwen Stefani was 44 when she had her third son, while Susan Sarandon gave birth at 45 and Halle Berry had a son at 47.

Due to Jackson's age, doctors say there are major risks involved in her pregnancy.

"There is a risk of miscarriage in the first trimester, especially if someone is more active," OBGYN Dr. Shonda Corbett told IE. "Given Janet Jackson's lifestyle, I would assume her doctors would have her restrained from doing so much physical activity in that first trimester -- just have her rest to be on the safe side."

The news of her pregnancy came right after she released the new music video for the appropriately titled single, “Dammn Baby.”

She secretly wed her third husband, 41-year-old billionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana, in 2012.
