A Florida man accidentally shot himself in the arm while cleaning his gun but did not notice the wound until three days after the incident.
Deputies and investigators were called to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial after Michael Blevins, 37, checked into the hospital saying he discovered a bullet wound in his arm days after cleaning his gun.
Blevins told authorities he was cleaning his .22 caliber pistol in his home Thursday, holding the weapon close to his chest so his dog would not go near it. He stood up and felt a sharp pain in his lower back from a prior injury.
According to the police report, he fell face down on the floor when the gun must have gone off.
When the man, who was home alone and wearing a long-sleeve, black shirt, came to, did not notice the injury to his left arm and went about his normal routine until Saturday morning.
On Saturday, he changed shirts and notice bloodstains on his previous attire as well as the wound in his arm, which had cauterized.
He told authorities he did not feel any pain because he was taking painkillers for his back issues.
Police escorted Blevins home on Saturday and he was not charged with any crime. Police determined he accidentally shot himself.
