Actress Melissa Gilbert announced Wednesday she was dropping out of the Michigan race for Congress, citing ill health.
The former child star of "Little House on the Prairie" has suffered serious injuries in the past few years, including a nasty thump she took on "Dancing With the Stars" in 2012 that left her with a concussion and whiplash.
After another fall that same year, she was diagnosed with two herniated discs in her spine.
"While I have received the best treatment and therapy I could have asked for," she told People magazine Wednesday, "those injuries have only gotten worse. My doctors have told me I am physically unable to continue my run for Congress."
Gilbert moved to Michigan three years ago when she married actor Timothy Busfield from "Thirtysomething" fame.
"When I moved here I immediately got involved with the community, and it's a community of extraordinary people," she said.
