The song has very special meaning for the couple. Max's mother passed away in April but before she died, he and Kenya exchanged vows in the hospital so his mom could be a part of their big day. They played "Blank Space" in the hospital room for the mother-son dance.

During the performance, the bride was in tears as she embraces her new husband, who is a captain in the Army.

The groom's sister wrote Swift a letter inviting her to perform the song at the wedding and she said yes.

At the wedding, Swift said: “When I wrote this song I never, in my life, imagined I would be asked to play it at a wedding. I just want to make that clear. But what Max and Kenya want, they get.”
