Authorities have released Tucson gunman Jared Loughner's mug shot, and many are calling his terrifying image "the face of evil." INSIDE EDITION has the details.
The world is learning more about Jared Loughner's mental problems and bizarre behavior. On the day of the massacre, Loughner's father admitted that his son was a deeply troubled young man.
The Loughner family is said to be reclusive and isolated. A neighbor who's been inside the house since the shooting said Loughner's mother broke down sobbing and was so traumatized she couldn't even get out of bed. His father was also weeping, not just for his son but for all the victims.
And one neighbor told INSIDE EDITION she feared she was being stalked by Loughner, who says she saw him staring through her window last summer.
She said, "The person stared into the window, started right at me for a very long time, just, the hair sort of stood up on my arms."
Meanwhile, Loughner's mug shot is being called "the face of evil."
He shaved his head and even his eyebrows, which psychologist Dr. Jeffrey Gardere says may be significant.
Gardere tells INSIDE EDITION, "Someone who would shave their head like that, who would shave their eyebrows for no apparent reason is someone who is trying to get rid of some sort of a persona and perhaps switch into another one."
Loughner's twisted grin seems to say he's enjoying his notoriety.
"He wanted to be significant in a world that he felt was insignificant in a life that he felt had no real meaning," says Dr. Gardere.
The mug shot also shows a graze on his right temple and he has a black eye, injuries sustained when he was overpowered by hero spectators.
And comparisons are being made between Loughner and Robert De Niro's crazed character in the classic movie Taxi Driver.
Like Loughner, in the movie the assassin shaves his hair in a bizarre fashion and plans to gun down a politician at a rally.
It's the second such shooting linked to the movie.
In 1981, Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley, who was obsessed with Taxi Driver co-star Jodie Foster.
Miss Arizona Kathryn Bulkley says she's horrified by the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. "To think that this would happen to such an amazing person is so devastating," she said.
She revealed Giffords had been helping her prepare for this weekend's Miss America pageant.
"She is an amazing woman, she's a strong woman, she's a fighter, and she really is so loving and caring," Bulkley added.
And relatives of the wounded are describing visiting their loved ones' bedsides.
"Our mother is doing quite well actually, she has a lot of strength and courage," said Penny Wilson, one victim's daughter.
Bill Hileman says his wife Susan wakes up screaming for little Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old she brought to the rally and who was shot and killed.
"I hear her in her semi-conscious ramblings screaming out, 'Christina! Christina! Let's get out of here, let's get out of here!' " Helman told reporters.
